VICTIM ASSISTANCE ADVOCATE

The Soledad Police Department, Victim Assistance Advocate is designated to respond and assist victims of crime that occurred in the City of Soledad. No one expects to be the victim of a crime and we understand that the criminal justice system can be difficult and confusing to navigate. The Victim Advocate is here to provide the following functions:

  • Provide an immediate and short-term response to mental, emotional, physical, and behavioral distress due to a criminal activity, including on-scene crisis intervention counseling
  • Providing criminal justice support including providing information about the criminal justice process, notifying them of case updates, and informing victims of their rights
  • Accompaniment to law enforcement interviews and forensic interviews
  • Developing and discussing a safety plan with victims, including assistance with the filing for domestic violence restraining orders
  • Assisting victims with safe shelter
  • Assessing victims’ needs and referring them to resources that are specific to their needs
